Empowering Inmate Mothers and Their Children with the Help of Volunteers
At Aid to Inmate Mothers, we pride ourselves on being able to support incarcerated mothers and their children with the help of our dedicated volunteers. It’s thanks to their efforts that we’re able to carry out our mission and make a difference in the lives of families throughout Alabama.
Wherever you may be located in the state, there are opportunities to get involved and make a difference. Consider volunteering on the second Saturday of each month to assist with visitation at one of our three facilities: Tutwiler (10 am-1 pm), Montgomery Women’s Facility (10:30 am to 1:30 pm) and the Birmingham Work Release (9 am to 11 am).
Our Storybook program is another way you can help. Days and times may vary depending on the prison’s schedule, but we’ll work with you to find a time that suits your schedule. You can also facilitate classes or projects with the women in our program.
We do require volunteers to submit documentation for clearance with the Department of Corrections. If you’re interested in volunteering for visitation, you’ll need to complete additional paperwork and background check for our funder the Children’s Trust Fund.
